Alex Isakow

Alex Isakow is an HCPC accredited Counselling Psychologist with both UK and international clinical experience. Alex initially completed a Bachelors degree in Social Work in Cape Town, South Africa. Alongside her studies, she acquired clinical experience providing therapeutic support at the Cape Town Refugee Centre and a public hospital. She went on to complete a Masters degree in Clinical Social Work at Boston University, USA where she graduated with a distinction. After moving to the UK, Alex came to appreciate that her academic knowledge, skill and experience would be best utilised in the profession of Counselling Psychology, and she thus transitioned into the field from social work. Alex consequently completed a Conversion Masters degree in Psychology in order to practice as a Counselling Psychologist in the UK.

Alex has since acquired extensive knowledge working with children and adolescents and she favours a client-centred approach. She understands the importance of creating a safe, non-judgmental and empathetic space where patients are able to share and explore their feelings and experiences at a pace that feels comfortable and contained. Alex is compassionate, warm and approachable and highly values the therapist-patient relationship. She therefore strives to work collaboratively with her patients and recognises that they are experts in their own lives.

Alex utlises a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapies and Systemic Therapies. Alex recognises the uniqueness of each patient and ensures to tailor each intervention specifically to her client’s needs.

Alongside her work at the Fitzrovia Psychology Clinic, Alex works in a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in the NHS with young people and their families struggling with complex mental health difficulties such as attachment disorders, complex trauma and high-risk behaviours. Alex’s clinical work is informed by psychological theory. She offers the latest evidence-based approaches and is adherent to the NICE guidelines. Alex is registered with both the HCPC and NCS.
