CBT For Depression FAQ

How does CBT therapy work?

By identifying and challenging unhelpful patterns, CBT Therapy helps you develop practical skills to manage and reduce distress. It’s goal-focused and collaborative, empowering you to become your own therapist over time.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on your situation, but many people begin to notice improvement within 6–12 sessions. After your initial assessment, your therapist will discuss a plan with you and regularly review progress.

What happens after CBT finishes?

Your therapist will help you plan how to continue using your new skills so you can maintain progress independently. Many people find these tools helpful long after therapy has ended.

What happens in a CBT session?

In each session, you’ll discuss situations you find challenging and explore how they affect the way you think, feel and act. Your therapist will help you develop new ways of responding, such as questioning unhelpful thoughts, noticing emotions without reacting and gradually changing behaviours you may have been avoiding.
