SCHEMA THERAPY
AT THE FITZROVIA PSYCHOLOGY CLINIC

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

  • Initial Consultation: Your initial consultation provides an opportunity to discuss your current difficulties, patterns of thinking and feeling, and reasons for seeking support. Your clinician can help you understand Schema Therapy and discuss whether it may be appropriate for you.
  • Assessment: Schema Therapy explores long-standing patterns that may have developed through early experiences and continue to affect how you think, feel, behave and relate to others. Your clinician will take time to understand your individual experiences and difficulties.
  • Treatment Planning: Following your assessment, your therapist will work collaboratively with you to develop a treatment plan based on your needs and goals. Schema Therapy is generally a medium to long-term treatment, typically involving weekly sessions over a period of six months to two years.
  • Schema Therapy: Schema Therapy combines cognitive, behavioural and experiential techniques with concepts from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), psychoanalysis, attachment theory and emotion-focused therapy.
Treatment focuses on identifying persistent patterns and understanding the underlying emotional needs associated with them. Therapy can help you develop healthier ways of responding to yourself, your relationships and your emotional needs.
  • Ongoing Support: Schema Therapy is a collaborative process. Your therapist will support you throughout treatment as you explore long-standing patterns, develop new ways of meeting your needs and work towards a more stable and authentic sense of self.
