Our Approach To What We Do

Our General Adult Mental Health Team at The Fitzrovia Psychology Clinic provides dedicated psychological support to adults (aged 18+) struggling with their emotional wellbeing in any capacity. We look to support clients where our specialist teams are not appropriate or where an interplay of challenges may merit a more generalised or integrative approach. We provide expert psychological assessment and individualised, evidence based psychological therapy, tailored to meet the needs of each person we see. The General Adult Mental Health Team understands that mental health difficulties are not something we catch or that we have but are a response to difficult circumstances or challenges that are occurring in our lives. Our team of clinical and counselling psychologists thus focus on promoting positive wellbeing, cultivating resilience and empowering individuals to foster and further their own holistic wellbeing. We deliver individual therapy alongside signposting to groups available within Fitzrovia Psychology Clinic and the various specialist teams.

Jan is an individual, couple and family psychotherapist with over 20 years experience working in both the NHS and in private practice. He has been employed as an Adult Psychotherapist within four NHS departments and is currently working full-time in private practice. He is registered as an existential-phenomenological psychotherapist.

The primary aim of his work is to increase understanding and deepen insight into patterns of experience and behaviour which clients identify as problematic and wish to clarify and resolve. This is the case whether you consult him as an individual, couple or family.

His practice is dedicated to a wide range of interpersonal and emotional difficulties. This may include problems with sex and intimacy, addictions and compulsions, anxiety and depression as well as the full range of problems psychiatrists deal with such as diagnoses of schizophrenia, personality disorder and manic depression.

“Jan has been by far the best professional in the field of psychotherapy/ therapy/ counselling that I’ve seen. I’ve tried a range of professionals but found Jan’s existentialist approach to therapy the most useful. He has taken me from feeling out of touch with my life and emotions to being able to recognise when things are in my control and how I can get a hold of them easily with communication and responsibility.” Former Client

  • Jonathan is fantastic. I found our sessions to be a very calm environment that really helped me to reset each week. Jonathan really builds a great rapport, and is very practical and realistic during the process. I could not recommend him more!

    Former Client

  • I am extremely grateful for the care Allison showed me during our sessions. She always adapted sessions to match my needs and demonstrated a real understanding of the difficulties I was facing. Her openness and kindness meant that trust was developed very quickly, and I would have no hesitation in seeing her again should I ever need to.

    Former Client

  • The early stages showed me that Emily truly cares about helping other people. I was hesitant to start sessions, but Emily remained consistent with reaching out and always remained patient and understanding. The depth and structure of the sessions was incredible, I’ve never worked with a therapist who has left me feeling like I understand and appreciate to I am to such a level.
