Dr Hamilton McBrien is a Child and Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist, with over 20 years of experience. For a substantial part of his career he has worked within the private sector predominantly as a lead Child & Adolescent Consultant Psychiatrist within the Priory Group. For the entirety of his 13 years with the Priory Group, Dr McBrien led adolescent inpatient units. During his tenure, he held the position of Medical Director for 2 hospital sites and Clinical Director for CAMHS for the entire Priory Group.  As part of this role, he worked alongside senior colleagues and managers to oversee the clinical care provided by Priory CAMHS sites operated by the group. During his time at Priory, he also led on opening a private CAMHS inpatient service, which at the time was the only such service in the UK. Prior to joining the Priory he worked within the NHS and within secure psychiatric services for your people.

Dr Guruswamy undertook her Post Graduate training in Psychiatry at University College Dublin and the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin. She became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2008.

Dr Guruswamy moved to the UK in 2012 from Ireland and took up a full-time Consultant role. She became a full-time Consultant Psychiatrist in the Independent Sector in 2014 and alongside her private practice, she was appointed Consultant in the Priory Hospital, Roehampton.

She has published papers on Irish Mental Health Law and wrote her thesis on The Evolution of Irish Mental Health Policy.

She has developed policies on Risk Management and Mental Health Liaison Systems with Primary Healthcare providers.

She is additionally trained as a Dialectical Behaviour (DBT) Therapist and in Functional Medicine both of which reflect her integrative approach to treatment.

Her interests also include Medicolegal aspects of psychiatric care as her Masters Degree is in Forensic and Legal Medicine.

I am a General Adult Psychiatrist, a medically qualified doctor that specialises in the assessment and treatment of conditions that influence mental health. I practise in Berkshire and Surrey and have extensive experience providing assessments and treatment for a broad range of mental health conditions, particularly stress-related disorders, depression and bipolar affective disorder, alcohol and substance abuse and self-harm. I believe strongly in the holistic care of my patients and adopt a combination of psychological, biological and social approaches to my practice. My main focus is establishing a strong therapeutic relationship with my patients and taking an active participation in their treatment plans. I provide supportive therapy in managing personal circumstances and building self-resilience, which are an integral part of the healing and recovery process. Where necessary, I prescribe medication in accordance with evidenced based treatments increasing effective outcomes.

Ed is a highly experienced mindfulness teacher, author and supervisor. He leads one-to-one and group mindfulness courses in-person in Sussex and globally online, working with a wide range of individuals, groups and organisations. Ed is the author of three books: Into The Heart of Mindfulness, How To Live Well By Paying Attention, and (as co-author) The Mindful Manifesto.

Ed is the director of Mindfulness Sussex and has taught the gold standard eight-week group mindfulness course (MBSR/MBCT) more than 200 times. He has also introduced and taught mindfulness in workplaces such as Accenture, NHS England, Imperial College Business School, Tate and Ardingly College, as well as working on the UK Parliamentary mindfulness teaching team, leading sessions for MPs and their staff. Ed supervises mindfulness teachers and is a member of the Mindfulness Network supervision team, and is registered as a mindfulness teacher by the British Association For Mindfulness-Based Approaches (BAMBA). The Guardian calls him “one of the UK’s leading mindfulness instructors and writers”.

Through mindfulness training. Ed helps people unhook from unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviour patterns and manage difficulties with awareness and kindness. He works with people experiencing a wide range of situations, including mental and physical health challenges (such as depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), fatigue, chronic pain or illness), life transitions, work and family stresses, neurodivergence (eg ADHD, autism), addiction and relationship issues. He also mentors those who are experienced with mindfulness and are looking to deepen their practice to support optimum flourishing and flexibility.
