DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT

Trauma can arise from many life experiences, including childhood abuse or neglect, domestic violence, serious accidents, medical trauma, loss, or exposure to danger through military or emergency service roles. When traumatic memories remain unprocessed, they can develop into PTSD, impacting emotional regulation, sleep, concentration, and relationships.

At The Fitzrovia Psychology Clinic, we understand that trauma affects each individual differently. Our experienced clinicians provide specialist PTSD and childhood trauma treatment for adults and children, offering personalised, evidence-based care that supports emotional recovery, resilience, and improved quality of life.

15-MINUTE INITIAL CONSULTATION

Following your initial enquiry, we will schedule a brief telephone consultation with you in order to gather some basic information about you, your needs and goals.

A COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT

Our private mental health assessment typically involves a 60-90 minute consultation with one of our senior clinicians. You will be asked about your mental health history, current symptoms, physical health, lifestyle factors, and any previous experiences with therapy.

PTSD & Trauma Treatment at The Fitzrovia Psychology Clinic

What is PTSD and how does it develop?

PTSD can develop following exposure to traumatic events such as abuse, violence, accidents, or life-threatening situations. Symptoms persist when the brain is unable to fully process the trauma without specialist support.

What are common symptoms of PTSD?

Symptoms often include intrusive memories or flashbacks, avoidance of reminders, emotional numbing, and feeling constantly ‘on guard’. These responses are common and treatable with trauma-focused therapy.

Is trauma therapy suitable for children?

Yes. Trauma therapy for children is adapted to their developmental stage and delivered in a supportive, child-centred way, often involving parents or caregivers where appropriate.

What therapies are used to treat PTSD?

Evidence-based therapies such as EMDR and CBT are highly effective in treating PTSD. Your clinician will recommend the most suitable approach for you or your child.

Do you offer online trauma therapy?

Yes. Online therapy options are available for those unable to attend our London or Surrey clinics in person.
